Carrying a concealed firearm is more than the practical application of buying a gun and putting it on your hip. While being able to perform a sub-second draw and a sub-2-second Bill Drill has its advantages, having the right mindset is more likely to save your life.
The right mindset means remaining calm, disciplined, and objectively aware of your surroundings. It involves prioritizing avoidance and de-escalation, following the law, and understanding that drawing your firearm is a last resort with serious moral, legal, financial, and emotional consequences. Deciding to conceal carry a firearm is accepting the responsibility of being your own first responder.
We vow to preserve life! Our own, our families, our friends, and our loved ones. We promise to protect our enemy's life, but not at the cost of our own, our families, our friends, and our loved ones! Stay safe. Stay Trained.
While obtaining a license to conceal a firearm is essential, it is merely the first step in many. The licensing class alone, while important, will not give you the necessary skills to become a competent and confident shooter, able to save your life or your family's life. Skills learned in a single class can fade over time, and absolute confidence comes from ongoing practice. Continued training reinforces safe-handling habits, sharpens marksmanship, and builds the automatic body responses needed to remain calm and responsible under pressure. Regular instruction and research will keep gun owners up to date on evolving laws, best practices, and modern techniques. Whether for personal protection, sport, or stewardship of a serious responsibility, ongoing training ensures that firearm owners remain skilled, safe, and prepared.

I have been competitive shooting since July 2024, and over the past year, I have been dedicating myself to training. While competition shooting has no real-world tactical applications and the targets don't shoot back, action shooting disciplines still require fast and accurate gun handling under time pressure.
Being able to consistently draw from an IWB holster while moving safely and efficiently, and making accurate hits while managing recoil for rapid follow-up shots on multiple targets, are skills that everyone needs if they plan to carry a firearm concealed. Although competition shooting is not a substitute for actual defensive training, it provides a foundation for developing mechanical skills, stress tolerance, and decision-making.
